JOHN EDWARDS SPEAKS TO GEORGIA DEMOCRATS
NO RELIEF FROM DROUGHT
The Climate Prediction Center has released it latest ninety day outlook and drought relief for the extreme conditions in South Georgia and much of the Southeast does not look hopeful. It calls for above normal temperatures and near normal rainfall, which means an ongoing extreme drought situation in Georgia and Florida. Some models are indicating a rapid switch to a La Nina pattern may develop in the next three months, which provides even warmer and drier conditions. Farmers may continue to see major water issues. Forecasters say the only positive note in a La Nina pattern is a noticeable increase in tropical systems in the Western Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico. Currently we are under level two water restrictions. If level three restrictions are put in place outdoor watering would be limited to Saturday's from midnight until ten a.m.
JOHN EDWARDS SPEAKS TO GEORGIA DEMOCRATS
Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards was the keynote speaker at the Georgia Democratic Party's major fundraiser, the Jefferson-Jackson dinner in Atlanta Thursday night, May 17. He told Georgia Democrats that the party should continue to push for a timetable for bringing American troops home from Iraq. Edwards said Congress should respond to President Bush's veto of the Iraq spending bill by sending the president an identical bill that funds the troops while setting a timetable for their withdrawal. Edwards used his speech to cast himself as a "Son of the South" ready to inherit the mantle of Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton. He outlined an agenda to fund education and health care while taking the country off its dependence on foreign oil and combating global warming. The dinner at the Georgia World Congress Center drew several thousand Democratic faithful and was expected to raise about $600,000 for the state party.
